This is kind of cool and kind of bizarro at the same time. While I think the program may be excellent in the early stages of clinical trials, I'm with Scott. I don't think I'd want to try something that's never been tried on a real person.

I can't wait to share this story with my hubby-to-be. He's a math geek and I'm sure he'll have something to say on the way this program is supposed to function!

Interesting idea - but I must say it kind of "creeps me out". Not sure I'd want to be first in line for something that has only been "virtually" tried... ??

Sorry, but I'm a skeptic and I'm concerned about the use of simulations in this kind of situation, for one simple reason:

To develop an accurate simulation, you have to have a deep understanding of the system(s) that you are simulating and the variables that have to be taken into account. For all the medical advances that have been made in understanding the different forms of diabetes, the notion that *anyone* has this kind of grasp on these illnesses is completely laughable.

Diabetes Mine: Who Needs Patient Studies When You've Got PCs? This is right up my alley literally. Since I teach computer science, I do keep up with the field. I certainly don't think that simulated clinical trials will replace real...
