Partners of Diabetics, Unite

Do you live with someone who has diabetes?  Or date someone with the disease?  Tell us about it.  What kind of experiences have you had?  Any advice for others?  Any heartbreaks or chuckles to share?

This is an official call for submissions to the newly launched Diabetic Partner Follies, a series createdWoody_boogie_1 here at DiabetesMine.com to give a voice to the partners of the PWDs (people with diabetes).  Anything you want to say is welcome, either under your real name or anonymous, as you please.  The point is that we all learn something valuable from hearing about diabetes from “the other side.”  So please email your submissions to me HERE.

Meanwhile, if you’re new here, please have a good look around. There’s more to read than meets the eye.

SEARCH by using the “FIND IT” window, currently in the left-hand margin. Type in any term that interests you, from LADA to foot care, and you’ll find everything I’ve written on the topic to date.  You can also click on the various “Categories” listed at left, to see groupings of the type of posts you may like best.

COMMENT simply by clicking on the “comments” link below any post. It’s easy! No need for formal registration or login.  Just plug in your email address and talk back to me.

SUBSCRIBE to this blog by using one of the buttons (subscription services) under my picture at the right. These services make it easy to follow the goings-on at all your favorite blogs.  Particularly popular and easy to use is the Bloglines service.  Subscribe to me by clicking HERE.  Also, for all other services, my RSS feed URL is http://www.diabetesmine.com/index.rdf

Any questions?  Email me, or ask your friendly neighborhood Computer Geek how it all works :)

Hello all, I am a 32 year old woman who is deeply in love with a man who has been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes last fall. He was extreamly thirsty all the time and loosing weight rapidly. My grandmother had it, so these signs were farmiliar to me. That being said he got bloodwork and was diagnosed with type 1. The doctor stated the disease was always in his system but a virus must have made it finally rear it’s head in his adult life. So here we are almost a year later and he is very lacadasical on taking his insulin and watching his diet. We live together and I’ve tried everything from packing healthy lunches, to making good dinners, to pleading, crying, giving altimatums, to even putting his son as an example. And still he lacks the want to take care of himself. He is insulin dependant and takes it whenever he feels he needs it. He has checked his sugar in front of me and it’s been in the 600′s, I’m surprised he hasn’t had a coma or diabetic shock yet. So now with my constant hounding(which is only because I love him and want him around a long time with no health complications later in life),I am becoming to him a pain in the a**, a nag, a bi***. I’m so upset, sad and feel hopeless. I need help and support because I’m at my wits end! I can’t just continue to sit back and watch this man loose weight weekely and fail and do nothing about it, but everything I have tried is not working. Please help me!
