Arthur Gets Cute with Diabetes, and

Two unrelated juicy tips today:Arthur

1) Did you know that the popular Arthur cartoon series recently aired an episode featuring a pediatric pump patient?  The girl, named Corinne, discusses her condition, displays her Animas insulin pump, and even demonstrates LifeScan UltraSmart blood glucose monitoring — a mucho PR win for LifeScan, of course. But thanks for making diabetes “a little hip,” ay?  The episode, called “Desert Island Dish,” also features a segment on choosing healthy food.  Parents: you can purchase a copy on Google Video for $1.99.

2) Check out a new, almost-launched, Web-based diabetes tracking program called SugarStats. It Sugarstats_logo promises “a simple, clean interface to access the most essential and decisive info” and share it with your doctor or health care team. Everything is stored online, and can be accessed from practically anywhere via web browser, cell phone or mobile device.  There will be a free version, along with premium paid accounts that will include advanced features.  Learn more by reading this week’s interview with SugarStats founder Marsten Alfred at TechAddress.

The girl in the Arthur episode is based on a Joslin patient. They issued a news release on it a few months ago.

That SugarStats could be promising. We’ll see how it is when they launch. I’m always looking for a good way to keep track of things, so I’ll take a look at it.
