Introducing Oculir: Glucose Readings from the Whites of Your Eyes!
One probing post seems to beget another. Following my recent update on DexCom, I received an email from the man who started that company (!) in 1999, John Burd. He is now CEO of a San Diego startup called Oculir, Inc., developing a futuristic yet hugely exciting new technology for non-invasive glucose testing using infrared (IR) technology to scan your eyes. YOUR EYES!!
The product will be a device about the size of a cell phone that patients simply hold up to their eye, allowing IR radiation technology to test glucose levels. John tells me that there are no potential health risks whatsoever associated with this technology:
“We all give off Mid-IR radiation as heat… We
have done a very small number of human studies with our research
instrumentation and the results are very encouraging. We are now
getting ready to run larger human trials and working on the commercial
unit.”
Cool!
OK, the company is still in early development stages, but it has recently secured generous funding. Investors say they’re backing 2yr-old Oculir because it “has combined the right amount of vision and practical research and technology.”
One analyst puts it this way: “The founders of Oculir have combined the best wavelength region for measuring glucose, the Mid-IR, with a unique measurement site, the white of the eye, and protected it with a strong intellectual property position.”
John Burd himself is quoted as saying: “People have been working on (non-invasive glucose testing) for decades and we think we’ve learned from their mistakes and we’re coming up with a great product.” Keep your eye on Oculir.

I have a feeling that the price may aid in the measurement by causing severe eye-rolling ….

Posted by: viagra | September 5th, 2007 at 10:59 pmJust after the launch of Viagra in the pharmaceutical market, the drug has evolved to be the most extensively utilized erectile dysfunction treatment in America. Strikingly, statistics related to http://www.viagraforce.com/viagra_n_america.html viagra and america, i.e. details concerning Viagra use in America point out that other than being used as a prescription drug to treat erectile dysfunction, Viagra is also being increasingly used by the Generation X for recreational purposes. The association between http://www.viagraforce.com/viagra_n_generationx.html viagra and generation X is alarming and the usage of http://www.viagraforce.com viagra by youngsters for recreational means should be stopped immediately if the youth brigade is to be saved from ruining themselves. However, old men suffering from impotency can use Viagra on being recommended by a doctor and http://www.viagraforce.com/viagra_n_old_age.html viagra and old age related information confirm that Viagra has been proved to be a superb cure for erectile dysfunction in old men.
